Economists increasingly argue that a rich variety of human motivations – e.g., emotions, reciprocity, and image concerns – shape outcomes in important ways. This may have implications for how to understand honesty and cheating, topics of relevance in connection with financial planning. The talk will elaborate on such issues, and also provide a brief introduction to a mathematical framework called psychological game theory which provides relevant analytical tools for applied work.
