Welcome to presenters Mark Prendergast, CFP(R), CPA, CDFA and Dr. Kimberly Bridges, PhD, CFP(R), CPWA(R), CDFA(TM), and incoming FPA Board of Directors President Evelyn Zohlen, CFP(R), for an afternoon focused on tactics, details, best practices and tips on how to help clients tackle financial planning decisions and dilemmas when they are facing major life transitions (marriage, second marriage, divorce, death). 

Bonus:  Meet incoming FPA Board of Directors president Evelyn Zohlen, for an update and Annual Report on the state of our Association.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this presentation attendee shall:

  • Understand the financial risks associated with divorce
  • Identify the factors associated with declines in economic well-being following divorce
  • Recognize the implications of late-life divorce and its impact on retirement readiness
  • Recognize the risks of long-term care expenses on the economic well-being of the healthy spouse and on the desired estate distribution
  • Identify the unique estate planning challenges with a blended family situation
  • Identify pro-active strategies to minimize loss in the event of divorce
  • Understanding the Automatic Restraining Orders and application to estate planning
  • Assessing risk of death/incapacity during divorce proceedings, and what steps a planner can recommend to mitigate undesired outcomes and associated costs of litigation.
  • Specific steps that can be implemented during divorce, such as bifurcation, severing joint tenancies, creating a new will, revoking trusts, and creating new Health Care Directives.
Timely Registrations ends Friday, May 18th.
